Eco-Friendly Nail Polish from Piggy Paint & Giveaway

When I found out my second child was going to be a little girl I was ecstatic.  Our first child was a boy and truthfully I felt so very blessed.  I was going to be privileged of having one little man and one princess.  My children have always been inseparable.  Austin is all boy but his favorite color is pink!  That is okay with me.  Addie loves to do everything her brother does, except catch bugs.

Addie is all girl despite the fact she likes to play in the dirt, plays cars and legos.  She started showing an interest in wanting to have her nails painted around the age of two.  Actually I ordered nail polish online at her request, twice!  She has gone through phases where she wanted them painted but didn’t actually want to go through the process and then at times loves the colors being changed frequently.

She was beyond excited when we received a package in the mail that was brightly colored with pocka-dots.  I knew what it was by the packaging but she didn’t.  She had so much fun unwrapping each of the bottles of Piggy Paint that were wrapped in bright pink tissue paper.  She named each color as she set them down.  Now came the hard part!  What color would she choose to start with?

After much debate and then deciding on multiple colors, we went with her favorite colors, pink and purple or Forever Fancy and Girls Rule! according to their Piggy Paint names.  She was excited to get to business and once her mind was made up she was ready!

Piggy Paint: The Safe Alternative

The first time Addie wanted to paint her nails I purchased several non-toxic polishes from a line I was familiar with.  I didn’t want any chemicals being put into her mouth and no matter how hard I try, her fingers still end up there!   I hadn’t heard of Piggy Paints at the time but was so happy to have found them.  Piggy Paint came about from a Mother who had the same concerns I did.  She knew traditional nail polish that was full of chemicals, left her light-headed and that could eat through a Styrofoam plate were not good for her daughter’s fingers.  The vision for Piggy Paint was then born!

Piggy Paint’s slogan is Natural as Mud!  They are a water based, non-toxic, non-flammable, eco-friendly line of polishes you can feel good about using on your child but are also not harmful for the planet!  They are made right here in U.S.A.

Piggy Paint nail polishes are free from:

  • Formaldehyde
  • Toluene
  • Phthalates
  • Bisphenol A (BPA)
  • Ethyl Acetate
  • Acetone

Despite not containing all these chemicals your paint will still dry to a hard, durable finish.  They recommend for maximum dryness and chip resistance, to use a hair dryer to dry the polish for one minute on a warm heat/low setting.  We used this time to sing the ABC’s, you can make it through them about twice in that time.  Not that a minute is very long, but it helps to keep their minds going and you might as well be sharpening them too!

Because conventional polishes contain the above, they are not recommended as safe to use during pregnancy.  I am excited that I CAN safely use Piggy Paint during my pregnancy with our little guy this summer.  Addie is dying to paint my toes and with it still being cold outside, I think I will let her start practicing so she gets the hang of it come sandal weather!

Addie had chosen to have her nails pink and her toes purple.  She was so excited to have her toes tickled as we were drying the paint, we sang “This Little Piggie” and had a fun time!

So we decided next time we would select five colors and paint each finger or toe a different color!   That would be perfect for a rainbow search afterwards!  We love to have rainbow searches whether indoors or out.  If you are trying to your child their colors, a rainbow search is a great way to do so.  You give your child a color (we will use the ones that correspond with the nail polish colors) and they have to find something in that color.  It is a great way to see their minds and imaginations going!
