I agreed to share my true feelings about clean water in participation with P&G and The Motherhood. Although I was compensated for sharing, all opinions and stories shared are my own.
Last year I had the privilege to partner with the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program to share about their amazing clean water program. It was such an awesome experience to be able to sit with my children and speak with them about how privileged we are to be able to have access to clean drinking water. Until it isn’t there, we don’t often think about having access to clean water, for most of us, it just involves turning on our tap.
That isn’t the case for millions of children and their families around the world. That is where the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program comes in. Over a decade ago, the non-profit P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program was founded, which distributes these packets through emergency relief efforts, NGO partners and governments in more than 75 countries. Over the past ten years, P&G has invested tens of millions of dollars to provide clean drinking water around the world. So far, the Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program has provided more than 9 billion liters of clean drinking water, and they are committed to delivering 15 billion liters of clean water by 2020.
How do they provide the clean water? The technology is simple to use and pretty much anyone can do it, including my own children. With only a bucket, a spoon, a cloth and a small P&G packet, people can purify 10 liters of dirty water in 30 minutes, enough drinking water for a family of five for one day. It was such a cool experiment to see first hand how contaminated water, full of mud and debris could be separated and cleaned in about 30 minutes.
With Spring Break upon us and Summer quickly approaching, it would be an awesome science experiment to share with your own children that teaches them the importance of giving back and how vital clean water is. My children just couldn’t believe how the filthy water was so quickly cleaned and just how easy it was, even for them to do! We talked about the children that have to do this daily in order to have clean water to drink for themselves and their families. It really made an impact and made them appreciate their own clean water.
