We are ever in need of protection from the sun due to the increasing intensity from the UV rays. The scary problem is what is worse, getting cancer from the sun or the products we use to protect ourselves from it? I am a firm believer in using sun protection. My children are used to wearing hats and even sunglasses. Since they started at infancy, they didn’t know life without them. Actually, my children have wild imaginations and while I was on the phone the other day were using it. They went from working at Sears, to Home Depot and then a few minutes later were wanting to change to go to the beach. The funny part wasn’t that they had changed three times at this point, it was that my son was arguing with my daughter that she wasn’t able to go with him to the beach without her sun hat and shades! I was proud of him at the age of 4 for reasoning with her as to why she needed them.
Hence my search for sunscreen that actually works and doesn’t contain ingredients that will harm us and the environment. Using the EWG database for the top rated sunscreens I came to eco Logical Skin Care. Although no sunscreen is totally without some risks, eco-Logical Skin Care Face, Body & Baby came in on the EWG rated as only a 1! That is pretty darn good. If you are not familiar with the EWG Database, they rank various products based upon the ingredients and rank them from a 0 being the best and least toxic to you and the environment to a 10, which obviously means stay away from those! I really like to stay with products at a 2 or under.
Why Do We Need A Natural Sunscreen?
For starters, the CDC released a study on March 25, 2008 that showed that most Americans’ blood are tainted with the very toxic ingredient, oxybenzone. This chemical has been linked to allergies, hormone disruption and cell damage. The scary fact is that nearly 600 sunscreens sold here in the US contain oxybenzone. You might be surprised to see how many big brand name companies still use it despite the risk factor known for some time.
According to a study performed by the journal Environmental Health Perspectives, has linked the chemicals in our sunscreen to the coral reefs dying. Researchers estimate that 4,000 to 6,000 metric tons of sunscreen washes off into the oceans annually. That is a staggering thought! As a result, up to 10% of the coral reeds are threatened by sunscreen-induced bleaching.

I was convinced and decided we would give them a try. I was given the opportunity to try out the eco Face Sunscreen as well as the eco Baby. They eco Face is meant to be light enough to be worn daily, even under your make-up but still provide great protection. I am extremely fair-skinned and am a pretty natural girl so I don’t wear make-up daily but do like using a moisturizer. The eco Face provided just that. I found it contained just enough that I actually didn’t need to wear an additional moisturizer! I love it. It goes on smooth and doesn’t leave your skin feeling so greasy, like an average sunscreen. It took slightly more rubbing than a usual moisturizer may, but it works great and I do not have to worry about forgetting to add sun protection to my face. Oh, an added benefit, it is non-whitening, so it doesn’t add more of a white color than I already am!
The eco Baby is perfect for your Babies of all ages. At almost 3 & 4, mine still get Baby sunscreen. Although they understand why this is needed, they don’t always like the sunscreen. I love that it doesn’t have the extremely sticky feeling to it. That is Addie’s biggest complaint, she doesn’t like how sunscreen feels. I haven’t had that objection with eco Baby. We also have had very intense heat here in Arkansas this summer and I am proud to say, as of today my children have not been burned. I am extremely happy with how the eco Logical Skin Care line has performed for my family! We we get the opportunity to continue to try it out on our upcoming trip to Florida when we visit Disney World and Sea World. I am so happy to have found eco Logical Skin Care!
I love that the company also packed their products in recyclable packing peanuts made from corn starch! To be honest, I even love how candid they are about noting a mistake on the front page of their website in regards to the making of the tubes for the sunscreen and as a result seem only 2/3 full. They may not appear as pretty on the shelf but since they are all about being eco-friendly, they made the awesome decision to use them anyways instead of waste them. Love it!
