Gifting Baby Diapers? Make this Simple Diaper Clutch!

Are you a mom trying to keep up with baby diapers in your bag?  It seems that no matter how hard I try, when I need to quickly grab diapers and wipes one of the two alludes me.  My solution?  Make a cute, but so simple diaper clutch!  It is small and can slide down into any bag but holds the essentials I need most.  This is seriously one of the easiest sewing projects, so even beginners can tackle this!

Supplies Needed:

  • 2 pieces of contrasting fabrics 10″ x 18″
  • 1 piece of interfacing 10″ x 18″ (optional)
  • bias tape
  • Velcro or button & elastic
  • buttons (optional)

Unlike most sewing projects, layer your fabrics with the wrong sides together (patterned side on the outside) and the interfacing sandwiched inside.  Cut the fabric to measure 12″ x 18″.

Using a rounded object, round the edges of two pieces of fabric by cutting off both of the edges of one end.  Be creative and use a glass, bowl, old cd, anything with a circular form.

Now you are going to sew your bias tape using a zig-zag stitch around the edge of the bottom with the patterned fabric still facing out.  The bottom has the squared corners, not the rounded.

After sewing the bias tape on the bottom, fold the clutch half-way up and pin the opening on both of the sides.  Start on the bottom of the left side and sew the bias tape using a zig-zag stitch in a U-shape, all around the clutch to the bottom of the other side.

I find it easiest to guide the sections of the bias tape by hand about two to three inches at a time.

Fold the flap over and sew on a piece of Velcro on the inside or attach a button with an elastic for a closure.

Add buttons if you wish and then fill with a wipe container and a few baby diapers.  Then you are good to go!  Throw it into your bag for a quick grab when you need to change your little one!

From start to finish the project takes a total of about 20 minutes, depending on how many interruptions there are.  In my case, about an hour!

Having had three in diapers, I know the expense of having your children in the most absorbent diaper.  For myself, sometimes that meant cloth diapers, other times it was private label diapers. Most mother’s biggest concern are finding the best value diaper brand that work.  Parent’s Choice diapers at select Walmart stores are now created more absorbent and can save you $240 per year vs. other national brands.  Before you head out to pick up your next pack of diapers, be sure to print a coupon to help you save even more!

Who would you make this adorable diaper clutch for?

Very cute! I wish I could do that with a sewing machine, I guess I need to learn to use the one that was given to me.

What an adorable clutch with basic steps that a beginner could make. These make great baby shower gifts as well and the cost is relatively small.

It really is super easy and the nice thing about a zig-zag stitch, it doesn’t even have to be straight to look nice 🙂
