DIY Carpet Stain Removers

Today’s post is brought to you by Flooring America.

While I have hardwood floor thoroughout my home, we also have large wool area rugs in the main rooms in the house.  With kiddos running through the house, we have our fair share of spills.  I try to remind myself not to cry over spilled milk because life happens!

I am not a fan of using chemical carpet cleaners.  If a product says it needs to be used in a well ventilated area then likely it contains harsh chemicals that are not only dangerous to us, but ones I want no where near my children.

Here are a few tips to keep your carpets stain-free, naturally!

DIY Carpet Stain Removers

Most carpet stains can be treated by mixing 1/3 cup vinegar with 2/3 cup warm water.  Apply it to the stain with a spray bottle.  Then blot it with a clean towel.  Apply the vinegar solution again and blot with a clean towel; repeat until the stain comes clean.

Have a red wine stain?  Try blotting it with club soda to remove it, followed by a cold water rinsing.

Have a grease stain?  Sprinkle it generously with baking soda, corn starch or corn meal and let it sit overnight.  In the morning vacuum it.  If you still have residue, use the vinegar and water solution mentioned above to treat the residue.

What about that dreaded clump of gum!?  Try using an ice cube to harden the gum and it will slide off much easier.  If you have smaller pieces left behind, ice it again and work them out.
