It is now only days away from school beginning. As a child, I looked forward to going back to school. Even though we homeschool, my children are beyond excited to start school. From the moment new school books started arriving, the questions began, “Can we start school today?”
Truth be told, I am a bit nervous. Last year, school proved to be a bit of a challenge as we began the very week Miss Bethany was born. While Kindergarten is very simple, it is very involved. Quite the contradiction, I know.
Homeschooling was the plan as soon as children were in the picture. We had planned to try a more unschooling method and then very last-minute decided to try out the curriculum offered through our state’s K12 plan. It is structured much like the lessons of a public school. You have to log your attendance, complete a minimum amount of work weekly and have to test with your teacher periodically, in other words, you can’t fall behind. I found with a new baby it helped me stay focused.
This year, I will have two students homeschooling, Addie in kindergarten and Austin going into first grade. Talk about scheduling! Between them both, we will average 13 lessons a day. Put a baby in the mix and it will be a schedule full from morning till night. In my efforts to balance homeschooling and life, I have created a plan so I can stay in control, and sane!
My first plan of action is to combine as many classes as I can between Austin and Addie. Last year, Addie completed most of kindergarten with Austin. Art, History, Science, Music and Social Studies are all classes that we will combine. Math, Phonics, Handwriting and Spelling will be subjects that I plan to tailor to each child individually.
My second plan of action is to take school with us on the go. Living in the country, we spend a great deal of time on the road, time that we can now be using for the children to work with our new Trio AXS 4G, Quad Core Tablet. This is not just any tablet, this tablet provides all the advantages of an ultra-portable entertainment device with the functions of a high-tech tablet. Oh, and did I mention it has free T Mobile 4g data for life? Yes! It comes with TMobile free data, 200MB of 4G data per month for as long as you own the tablet. If you need more, there are plans available to purchase. This allows us to not have to find a place with free wifi while out and about to stay connected. I can’t tell you how excited I am for this!
The Trio AXS from Walmart is equipped with standard tablet features including: Google Play, GPS, FM Radio, a front and 5MP rear facing camera, 16 GB of storage memory, expandable micro SD slot, Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and Wi-Fi capabilities. All these features make the Trio AXS an easy way to connect, share, work and play all while being mobile thanks to the free T Mobile data plan. It really came in handy to keep the kids occupied this week while our van was being repaired. Three hours in a dealership waiting room is enough for any mom to go crazy.
Monday, August 18th officially starts school for our 2014-2015 school year. While I may not be fully ready for school to begin, I am now as prepared as I possibly can be. The only other thing that could help at this point is a clone.
