Who knew that little yellow creatures would turn into such a loved creature? My kids are fascinated with the Minions! And currently Tic Tac Toe, thanks to Pappy, so we decided to combine the two and create a felt Minion tic tac toe board.
We are always looking for fun kid crafts and seriously, this was really easy to put together and turned out pretty cute. It was quite inexpensive and just required us purchasing a few felt squares but even if you needed to buy everything, it would still be inexpensive and you could make several as gifts.
Grey Felt (or whatever color you desire for the board)
Piece of denim fabric or dark blue felt
Black Ribbon, thin
Yellow Thread (or whatever color you desire for board)
Either hot glue or needle & thread
I started by cutting out 10 – 1 1/2″ x 3″ rectangles of the yellow felt. I eyed the size and then trimmed the tops to be oval shaped. Then I cut my denim fabric rectangles into the same width and about 1 1/2″ high. These I cut out small rectangles on the side of each for the arms.
Now is time to assemble the Minions!
I first layered a piece of black ribbon on the yellow felt the width of the top. I sewed my pieces on with a whip stitch but this could be done with hot glue.
Then I sewed (and glued a few) pieces of denim onto the bottom part of the Minion. The kids wanted to help with this so we ended up gluing most of them, either works.
Then we glued the eyes on. The smaller eyes got a pair, the large eyes are the single eyed Minions.
Then I stitched on a mouth.
I made five of each Minion per set just in case they ever did need to fill every single space on the board.
Next was the board! I took a felt sheet and cut it into a square. Basically this involved trimming about 2″ of felt from the longer side. Then with a running stitch, stitched two lines dividing the sheet into three columns.
Finally I turned the sheet and stitched two more rows creating the grid.
Since the pieces are felt, they stick to the board and it is perfect to take on the go. Now we just need to make a little pouch for them all to stay in.
Do you have any little Minion lovers in your family who would enjoy a Minion Tic Tac Toe board?
