Graham Cracker Peeps S’mores

This is the time of year all kinds of pastel colored candies and chocolates pop up at the grocery stores and markets.  Although we usually really try to limit our intake of foods with food coloring (especially red for Austin’s my sake), this year I gave in and told them we would purchase a pack of pink Peeps!

As a child, my Papa use to purchase Peeps for us kids.  At that time my grandparents had moved from New York to Mississippi.  We would go visit usually at least twice a year and each time Grandma and Papa would send us home with little baskets of goodies for our drive.  Peeps were always included!  I think they were something he must have loved, but to this day when I see them they remind me of him and his smile.

When I decided we would make Peeps s’mores, the kids knew they wanted pink bunny Peeps.  This was something fun and quick for an afternoon that they were able to help me with.

Items You Need

  • 1 Package of Peeps
  • 1 Cup of Chocolate Chips or Chocolate Pieces, Melted
  • 8 Full Graham Crackers, Crushed

I started by crushing my graham crackers pieces in a baggie.  You could also do this in a bowl, but Addie had fun smashing them and the baggie worked so well for this!

Next melt your chocolate.  You can do this on a double broiler or take the easy way and use your microwave.  If you use your microwave, melt them in 30 second intervals and stir in between each.  Once they are really starting to melt, just continue to stir to melt the last few lumps.

Dip your Peeps into your melted chocolate, or to make it neater, coat with a spoon.

Next roll it in the graham crackers to make sure it has been completely coated.

Place them on a cookie sheet or a piece of parchment paper.  Repeat until they are all completed!

For the kids to dip them, I found it easier to insert a toothpick into the top of each of the Peeps so they had something to hold onto.  If you are doing this for a party, or want to use them for a decoration, once they have harden, insert a kabob stick into the bottom of the Peep and place them all in a jar!

Do you have a Peeps memory or a favorite way you enjoy your Peeps this time of year?

  2. I forgot to tell you my funny peep story.. I personally dont care for them.. but M’honey does.. but.. he likes em hard as a rock.. so.. when I buy Easter peeps, he pokes holes in the plastic so they get exposed to air.. and then he stick em in his closet for 3-6 months.. lol.. THEN he eats them.. Is that funny, or what? 😉
