Make Some Fizz at Home with a Soda Stream

I have to admit that soda, actually only one variety in a Red can has been a downfall of mine for the last several years.  Now that I am on Weight Watchers and really trying to kick the habit, I actually was excited for the chance to review a Soda Stream System.  That doesn’t make any sense, does it?

Well truthfully, I have never been one to really like other brands colas.  If I am going to drink one, it might as well be the real thing.  But I am very excited because it opens the opportunity to make other types of carbonated beverages as well!  I love sparkling juices and even ginger ale which I received!  Plus with such a wide variety, when you have guests over, it is easy to please everyone and doing it while still managing your budget and waste as well!

This is what came in my package 🙂   I received an awesome variety of flavors and a few diets mixed in as well as the mywater flavor essence pack.  So far, as we have yet to try them all, the ginger ale is our favorite!

The mywater flavor essence contains three flavors:  orange, raspberry and lemon-lime.  Each bottle can make 20 1-liter bottles of flavored seltzer water.

The 16.9 fl oz bottles make 12 liters or 50 servings.  Think of all the cans you could save if you were a soda drinker!   Th plastic 1-liter bottles that come with the system, can be rinsed and reused again and again.  The CO2 bottles can actually be refilled and used for up to three years.  I love that you can take the bottles in and have them refilled!

Putting it together was really simple.  I was a little intimidated when I pulled the CO2 canister out thinking this must be difficult.  You actually just take off the cap and snap it in, really simple!  Next you place it on the stand.  I washed out the plastic bottles and then filled it with cold water to the line, do not overfill it.  You screw it to the carbonating system and then press the button until you hear a loud noise, doing it three times for normal fizz.  I love that you really can add as much or little fizz as you want!

Be sure to screw the bottle in well.  The kiddos helped me once and when we pressed the fizz button we were pleasantly surprised to be sprayed with water!

The next step is to add the syrup or mywater.  You do want to make sure you follow directions and do it slowly.  If not, think of opening a bottle that has been shaken up, it goes everywhere.  Yes, we did!  Then you place the cap on and slightly shake it to distribute the syrup.  Next you can chill or use ice and have a nice drink for a fraction of the cost!

Bottom line, if you are a habitual soda drinker and want to save money and create less waste the Soda Stream would be an awesome solution.  It creates fun carbonated drinks right from home that are delicious!
