Being a homeschooling family, we never seem to completely get away from learning. I try to use opportunities that come up to still teach the kids in a fun way. Since our summer break is quickly coming to a close, we are starting to try to work ourselves back to the school mindset. I am not sure who is resisting more this year, me or the kids.
Our school books arrived a couple of weeks ago and just last week we decided to unpack them. It does make it a little more real. I have one that is very excited to start and one, well that just isn’t. We decided we would start back with handwriting worksheets that day. It was actually the children’s pick. After the third page, Austin wasn’t too excited anymore. So we discussed ways to make handwriting fun, or at least more fun, then settled on writing cards to a few of our loved ones that live away.
We make lots of our own cards, but this time, Austin had seen cute Minion cards from Hallmark at Walmart he thought were amazing. Each card has a mini Minion attached so he said it was perfect since it came with a little gift too. We headed in and let both children pick out a card for a special friend.
While we were at the store, I decided to pick up a few craft supplies to try out an idea I had. The Minions looked pretty simple enough to make, and although they didn’t quite turn out like I had pictured in my head, my kids were over the moon excited about them. My kids are on a tic tac toe kick right now and this is a fun way to play, Minion style!
In one evening while watching a show I cut them out and sewed on the ribbon for the goggles. The next morning the kids helped me hot glue the other pieces together and we had an adorable felt Minion tic tac toe set. While the kids insisted on keeping the original set for themselves, we decided to make another set to send as a gift to a cousin who lives out of state.
Check out the quick video below on how we put them together.
