Feel the Softness of Organic Bamboo Towels By Shoo-Foo #Noisegirls

I had the privilege to receive a set of Spa Combo Organic Bamboo Towels from Shoo-Foo to review.  I was very excited as truthfully we are in need of getting some new towels, I made rags out of some of the towels that we received as a wedding gift over 9 years ago recently.

When I first opened the package, I ran my hands along the fabric to feel how incredibly soft they are.  Bryan pointed out to me how thin they were compared to our cotton towels, which I did notice.  The thing is, bigger and thicker is not always better.  I love that they are made from certified organic bamboo!

Why Use Bamboo?

First off, bamboo is one of the most sustainable resources available to us.  Have you ever seen an area where bamboo was planted and then starting taking over?  They say that bamboo is next to impossible to get rid of, which is of benefit to us in so many ways. It can be cut off and harvested above the ground and it will continue to grow and be ready to be harvested again in a few short years.  Compared with the harvesting of a tree that requires 60-70 years to mature, there is no contest with why bamboo is considered to be sustainable.

Bamboo grows naturally and does not require the use of pesticides or herbicides.  It does not require irrigation, other than the natural rainfall that it receives.

Bamboo is four times more absorbent than cotton which is amazing for use as a towel.  Bamboo possesses a property known as bamboo kun which naturally keeps germs, fungus and odors away.

What Did I Think?

So I told you our initial thoughts, I loved the softness but Hubby was concerned about them absorbing since they were so thin.  After using the Bamboo towels from Shoo-Foo I am completely impressed at how well they actually work!  I knew that bamboo was soft, I have several t-shirts made from organic bamboo but I truly didn’t realize how well they would absorb.  They certainly passed the test. I love how fast they dry and how smooth they are on the skin.

I received the Indigo Blue which is a beautiful color and great for having with children when you need to clean up a messy spill.

The bamboo spa combo includes:
1 bamboo bath towel: 76 x 123 cm (30 x 60 in)
1 bamboo hand towel: 33 x 76 cm (13 x 30 in)
1 bamboo face cloth: 28 x 33 cm (11 x 13 in)

About Shoo-Foo

All Shoo-Foo products are made of cellulose from organically grown bamboo.  Both the bamboo forest and the bamboo crops they use are certified organic.

Shoo-Foo began when owner Dany Filion was casually reading an article about bamboo usage in 2006. The ecologist-trained entrepreneur from Canada who lived 10 years of her life in China was surprised to find out that textile fibers could now be made out of bamboo without the major pesticide use. The exact same article also spoke about the harsh eco footprint left on the planet from cotton production, which involves the application of many chemicals (half a pound for every t-shirt)!  After finding out more about how sustainable bamboo is, the Shoo-Foo towel line was born.

Since then, they have expanded to have a line of baby products, including cloth bamboo diapers and a bedding line as well.

  1. I just bought these towels recently, and I think that the company has changed the way they make them or something because they really are not as great as you describe them. I had read a couple of reviews (including yours) about how nice they are and so I felt pretty confident buying them.
I had a similar experience as you, when I first got them. They have a really nice weight and the colour is so rich. But they do not absorb water very well and they leave lint all over while drying. I’ve even tried washing them a couple of times with the same results.

Sorry, just wanted to include another user review.

    1. I am sorry that you had a bad experience but am always happy to share others reviews. We really enjoyed our towels but after time did have some issues with them not absorbing the water. We never use fabric softener, so I know that was not the issue. We still use them (but hubby doesn’t care to use them). Thank-you for sharing!

  2. I love the softness of Bamboo, but I wondered how absorbent they are compared to cotton towels and now I know they are good to go!

  3. I am heading to that site next. Thanks, Amanda. I have one organic bamboo t-shirt and it is so soft. I have heard such great things about Bamboo. I’d like to see more products like this on the market.
