This year, there is no denying the fact that I need to loose some weight. It isn’t so I can be a specific size, or fit a specific body type. I have moved past that. I need to loose some weight so I can feel good again. My 5’2″ frame wasn’t made to be the weight I am today, and I can feel it. I fully don’t expect to be the same size/shape I was when I got married. Let’s face it, that was almost 13 years ago and I have given birth to four beautiful babies. During that process my body has changed drastically, and I am okay with that. But this year, this year I plan to make some changes so I can feel great again!
To start with, since I am a nursing mom, I need to make sure I am drinking plenty of water. Being properly hydrated always me to provide enough milk for my little guy, while still giving my body what it needs to properly flush all toxins from my body. Even though I feel like I never stop running after the kids, I am not getting the type of exercise my body needs to stay fit. My goal is to walk a minimum of three to four times a week as a family. It will give us time outside together, as well as help get our hearts pumping.
Next is to tackle my afternoon pick-me-up! With homeschooling, we stay very busy in the mornings. Our goal is to be completed with our core subjects by lunch and tackle the fun projects in the afternoon, like art or science experiments. By 2:00pm, I am really dragging. I tend to reach for something full of sugar to give me that instant burst of energy, but the reality is, once I have my sugar crash I feel even more sluggish. Know the feeling? I want to replace that afternoon crash with a protein packed treat that will satisfy my sweet tooth, while providing me with extra protein to give me a true afternoon push.
Today, the children and I had a fun time creating a recipe that fit just that description using Jif Peanut Powder. Have you seen it on the shelves yet? I picked mine up at Walmart. It is a soft, smooth powder with the same amount of nourishing protein as traditional peanut butter, but with 85% less fat. It only contains one ingredient, fresh roasted peanuts. Now there is a Jif Chocolate Peanut Powder that contains semisweet chocolate and a dash of sugar if you are looking for something with just a hint of sweetness too.
So what did we make? No Bake Peanut Butter Oatmeal Protein Balls… Yum!!
These are a perfect afternoon treat packed with protein and just sweet enough to satisfy our sweet tooth!
- 1 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
- 1/4 cup Jif Peanut Powder
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup of any chopped, dry fruit
- 1/3 cup of honey
- 3 Tablespoons ground flax seed
Combine all ingredients thoroughly. Using a tablespoon, scoop out mixture and form a ball with your hands. Mine are about 1″ balls.
If desired, coat the balls in Jif Peanut Powder, cocoa, or powdered sugar by rolling the balls in a small bowl with 2 tablespoons of any of the desired coatings.
Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container for 10-12 days. They are really simple and yet very delicious!
