Have you ever had a time when you really thought and pondered over a decision. Then once you made it and went in that direction it turned out really good? Yep, that is what happened when I invested in a new Samsung Galaxy On5 phone from Walmart Family Mobile. It was an awesome way to maximize my tax refund, since the phone is currently on rollback for $69. Paired with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS Plan at $49.88 and it’s Unlimited* Talk, Text, & Data, it is an awesome value for my family (*Includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE† data then 2G).
Being a huge Samsung phone fan and the Samsung Galaxy On5 is sleek and has not disappointed. My children have enjoyed using the awesome data mainly watching Mickey on YouTube. Bottom line, it was a great investment of a portion of my tax refund because of the value offered by the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan. Budgeting is always a huge focus of our family, but we also decided that this year we would take a portion of our tax refund to put towards some fun on the road and at home. Having a fun movie night in was a no brainer!
I am looking forward to using the 10GB of 4G LTE data on our upcoming road trip to New York next month (also being partially paid for with a portion of our tax refund). As a blogger, staying connected is vital, so is sharing pictures with family along the way. If you want to read more about the awesome service, check out more details here.
My family is stoked that each month the Walmart Family Mobile service includes a free movie credit on VUDU ($7 value same as a new release rental). This month we planned a fun family movie night in. We watch movies all the time together but planning décor, fun foods and actually calling it a family movie night made them all the more excited. VUDU has all the latest movies that we can stream directly from our Roku, the only issue is now settling on which movie we will be watching!
For this movie night, I decided we would create a fun movie sign. I wanted to create something that was simple, didn’t cost a lot and that the children could help with. My handwriting may not be perfect but we were sure excited with how our sign turned out!
DIY Lighted Sign
- 1 Black Foam Board
- 100 Count Lights
- Xacto Knife
On the backside of your sign, measure 1-1 1/2″ from the edge of the foam board and create a line with your ruler all the way around the board. Using an Xacto Knife, create small x marks every inch along the line around all four edges.
Before you insert the lights, write your words on your sign. We choose to write Family Movie Night with a metallic Sharpie. If you would prefer a more chalkboard look, use a white or silver Sharpie.
From the backside, insert a light into each x mark by starting at the bottom right side working your way up and around the top and down the left side and bottom. This will allow you to have the plug on the bottom of the sign. That’s it! Really simple and yet totally adorable!
The kids choose some of their favorite treats and we made a huge amount of popcorn with their favorite toppings including chocolate chips, peanuts and marshmallows. We served pinwheels and pretzel covered hot dogs, Caesar salad and berry covered shortcakes.
Since we were celebrating family movie night with popcorn, I just had to create a popcorn themed look with flowers. I found yellow carnations (white would work too!) and cut them so the base of the flower sits right at the top of the popcorn holders. Make sure you use enough flowers to completely fill the opening, I used 8-9 carnations in each container. Another simple but utterly adorable way to dress up our table.
To finish out our festive look, I made tissue paper garlands to hang from the table and on the walls next to the sign in a glittery red color. They are simple and so cute.
We had a great time, the kids ate way too many chocolate chips and marshmallows and we ended the evening with questions on when we were going to have our next family movie night! Since Walmart Family Mobile comes with a free VUDU credit each month, we are going to try to make it a monthly occurrence. To begin the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS service, you can just pick a phone or Bring Your Own, and get your SIM Kit at Walmart for only $19.88 to get you activated.
What would you write on your DIY Lighted Sign?
