It seems like yesterday…

How many times have you said that?  I never would have guessed I would be saying it so soon, but I do.  It seems like only yesterday, Austin was only about ten months old and I found out I was pregnant with our second.  To find out we were having a little girl was more than exciting!

After a very eventful eight months, she arrived late in the summer of 2009.  Immediately, it was love!  The two children bonded like they had always been together.  Side by side as they learned to take on the world, as they laughed and as they cried.  True sibling love that warms my heart and always makes my eyes smile.

We have come so far from that day we welcomed Addie into our lives.  This year, actually in just two weeks she begins kindergarten.  Where did the time go?  She is so happy and lives life with so much love and excitement.  In less than a month she will be turning five!  Yesterday she was my little baby, next month she will be five, a big girl in her terms.  I want to remember her just as she is today.

Things to Remember about Addie at 5

  1. Your favorite color is green (actually tied with pink!)
  2. You would wear your princess dresses from sun-up to sun-down.
  3. Good days are always full of singing at the top of your lungs, dancing and putting on shows.
  4. You love to cuddle and use it as your excuse as to why you shouldn’t sleep in your own bed.
  5. You love getting mail!  Getting mail with your name on it makes the most exciting of days.

Living in the country, we have a very small-scale post office.  The kids love the independence, being able to check the mail and see first hand if any of the mail has their names on it.  I remember back to being a child and the excitement that came from getting a card in mail from pen pals or my Grandma.  I love to share that same excitement with my children.

We celebrate milestones big and small and kindergarten is a BIG milestone!  Addie is ready to begin, full of excitement and ready to be a sponge.  While I was shopping in Walmart this week, the children noticed a new display of Hallmark greeting cards.  With a new selection of Hallmark cards ranging from $.47-$.97, there were plenty of card ideas.

As an added bonus, you can register for the Hallmark Card Rewards Program online.  You can either download an app or enter the UPC for the Hallmark cards you purchase at Walmart.  For every 5 cards you buy, you’ll earn a reward.

  1. Such a cute post. I didn’t know about Hallmark Rewards, glad I do now. I’m going to start with the cards I bought for Sean Boy’s birthday today. I always tell myself I’ll remember everything, but I don’t. I need to start writing them down or celebrating them in a way that we will never forget them.

  2. I love getting mail and so do my kids! Their grandma sends them cards in the mail a lot. I need to start sending them mail just so they get mail and can feel special – it’s such a self esteem booster to see someone send you something just because!

  3. We love Hallmark. When I was dating my husband I noticed his obsession… er… preference for Hallmark and would watch him turn the cards around before opening the envelope to check for the gold seal. Such a great way to welcome her into her next adventure.

  4. What a sweet way to celebrate something that is exciting (yet so emotional for mom)! I think building excitement about learning definitely helps kids be successful!
