Strategies for Saving Money in 2015 for Financial Success

This year Bryan and I accomplished something that we were so very proud of, we paid off the primary mortgage to our home!  Both being under 35, we had dreamed it but never thought we could actually make it happen.  It was a long road, we planned, made lots of bad decisions and learned oh so much along the way.

At the beginning of the year, I would have NEVER imagined that before the year-end we would be putting an offer in on another home.  It wasn’t our original plan, but plans change and we have to adapt.  Before we decided to go through with an offer on the house, we sat down and worked on our 2015 plan.  This year, I heard the saying, a goal without a plan is just a dream.  I whole-heartedly believe that.  We must have a plan!

Achieving financial peace of mind means something different to each of us.  I do not have goals of being wealthy or having many material things, I do sincerely enjoy living a simple life.  For our family, not being tied down to heavy loads of bills or carrying credit cards debt is a big part of our family’s financial plan.

Our Strategies for Saving Money in 2015

During 2015 we have many goals, we have a plan that we are working on putting in writing, strategies for saving money.  Being able to track our goals, celebrate our successes and learn from our setbacks, will help us achieve our financial plans.

The biggest ticket to our financial plans for 2015 if we purchase the new home is to sell our existing home.  It will allow us to pay a large portion of the loan off, make several needed upgrades to the home and put a small amount aside for our rainy day fund.  Of course, that will make things much easier for our family in 2015 but for daily finances, having a budget and sticking to it will be the key to staying on the right path.

When sticking to a budget, you know exactly where your needs are, where your money is going.  It helps to make day-to-day spending decisions and if focused, helps you to live within your means and not overspend (which only brings regrets later!).  Our first series on Our Homemade Life in January 2015 will be focused on getting our affairs in order for 2015 with a budgeting binder!  I am excited to start the year off on the right foot, share some of our goals and hopefully get motivate each other along the way.
