As the saying goes, “We have not inherited the Earth from our parents, we are borrowing it from our children.” What can we do to leave the earth better than we found it for our kids? Teach them to protecting the environment!
When we vacationed in St. Louis we visited the St. Louis Science Center and had the opportunity to watch Born to be Wild documentary at their IMAX theater. It was such an adorable film with the elephants and orangutans stealing the show, but it also really drove home the need that there is to care for sure amazing creatures. It was a great educational film!
On a recent trip to the Little Rock Zoo Austin noticed that there is an exhibit that shows the cheetah population from 1900 until now. It is a tall cylinder full of white balls that showed how many there were in 1900 and brown balls are used to show the current population. He was puzzled when I explained to him what it meant! How could so many of them be gone?
Both were great occasions to explain to the children why we need to not only care for the earth and the environment for ourselves but also for all the animals that do not have a voice as well.
That is the idea behind Nature’s Path EnviroKidz, a line of delicious cereals and bars that donate 1% of sales to support endangered species, habitat conservation and environmental education for kids worldwide.
