Transitioning a Co-Sleeper & Making It Easier for Mom

My baby is 18 months old…sob!  How can that be?  It seems like just yesterday it was January 2nd, 2012, the day I received the shocking news I was pregnant.  I literally remember the exact moment when I realized I was.  When I think back I can feel my heart beating out of my chest the same it did that day.  Seriously, where has the time gone?

Since she is 18 months old, you may wonder why I would be so excited to receive the new Safe&Sound® Pan & Tilt Full Color Video Baby Monitor from VTech, so let me take a few minutes to explain.  We have been a co-sleeping family from the beginning.

Although my intention was to have Austin sleep in a bassinet and then crib.  His birth was not a normal one, and after his stay in the NICU, we had to stay at a hotel for a little bit.  The tornado that hit our town the night he was born left us without power for a couple of weeks.  During our hotel stay, he and I co-slept in a bed.  Once we arrived home, he wouldn’t sleep but an hour or two in his bassinet because he had gotten use to being with me.  The rest is history.

Truth is, I love co-sleeping.  Everyone has their opinions and concerns, it has worked for my family and I wouldn’t have done it any differently looking back.  Our plans are for Miss B to share a room with her big sister in the new house (that we are hoping happens soon).  I may not quite be ready for her to sleep on her own but I think we will attempt to try it.  I am ready to sleep through the night again, after just over seven years of co-sleeping.

Bryan jokes that although she will make the transition, I may not be able to sleep without a muchkin next to me, we shall see.  Being able to visually see her, without having to get up out of bed will give me peace of mind.  Not only can I see her, I can  and even talk to her through the VTech Safe&Sound® monitor.  How cool is that?

The VTech Safe&Sound® Pan & Tilt Full Color Video Baby Monitor allows you to keep up with your little ones with peace of mind.  Although our plans to expand our family are finished, for those that still have those plans, the monitor is expandable so you can add up to four handsets from one parent unit.  This is such a cool feature to be able to check-in on multiple little ones at the same time.

My Favorite Features:

  • The camera pans up to 270 degrees side-to-side and tilts as many as 124 degrees up and down. You can even zoom in up to 2x to get a closer look at your little one.
  • It has 1,000 feet of range so you know what your baby is up to even when you are in another room.
  • The digital transmission is encrypted, ensuring video and audio transmission is always private and secure.
  • It features a high-resolution 2.8-inch color LCD screen.
  • Automatic night vision: Two infrared LEDs and a low-lux camera automatically detect dim light, providing clear video even in dark rooms.
  • My favorite feature, you can talk-back with the intercom!  Sometimes all your baby needs is to hear the sound of your voice to be comforted.
