Turn off the Tech, and Tune Into Fun!

Thank you Goliath Games for sponsoring this post. Pick up your favorite game today to enjoy the holiday season and beyond!

As a homeschooling family, we use technology all throughout the day for school.  This year we are trying a new online platform that requires quite a bit of screen time.  They love technology.  We use technology for school, games and to communicate.  It is so nice to have times where we are device free and spend time together, looking up.

We love to play games as a family.  Family game night is a time to relax, let loose and have fun, all tech free.  It’s amazing just how much laughter can come from a few games.  Back before cell phones and tablets and big gaming systems, that was our past time and I am determined to make it that way again in my own home.

Game night can be even better when shared with friends.  Now that the weather is getting colder, having friends over for game night (or even a game day) party fun is a no brainer.

Sure, there is always someone with a little bit of a competitive spirit, but for the most part it is silly fun.  With our kids all being under ten (for just a few more months), we opt for games that are light hearted and shorter to play.  That is why we LOVE Goliath Games from Pressman Toys.

Some of their games are just down-right silly, like Doggy Doo.  What little boy do you know that wouldn’t like a game where the dog has gas and eventually doos?  It is crazy popular because the game has 120 million views on YouTube and counting!  Yep, it was my son’s favorite game!

You simply feed your doggie, and squeeze the leash. After he makes his gassy sounds – plop! If you are the player who cleaned up the doo, you get a fart token. The player who has the most tokens at the end of the game wins!  It models responsibility in a fun (and gross!) way in that they are rewarded for cleaning the mess-free doo.

If you love games with anticipation, then Shark Bite is for you!  Place the fun and colorful sea creatures into the game unit with a snap, and grab your friends to start playing. Players take turns rolling the die and fishing for the sea creatures using the fishing rods. But you have to watch out because you never know when the shark is going to bite!

I love that the game is simple, fun and doesn’t even require batteries.  My big kids loved anticipating the snapping the shark.  There were lots of giggles, maybe a few screams and lots of fishing fun!

Speaking of giggles, Giggle Wiggle provided just that!  It’s a cute caterpillar with just a few hands to spare.  The race is on as you try to place your colored marbles, starting from the bottom row of his hands all the way up to the top as he wiggles to the fun music.

While he dances, he will try to knock your marbles off as you are playing, but if he does, no worries, just pick them up and keep on racing! The first player to get all their marbles on in a row WINS!  We spent a lot of time chasing marbles, laughing and giggling for sure.

For the younger ones, Pop the Pig® was a huge hit!  There is no wonder why over 10 million games have sold.  It is an international preschool classic that is adored by children all over the world. My kids love the suspense as they watch his belly grow!  The player who makes his belly burst loses the game. It is a super simple, but totally fun game.

The players take turns rolling the die, then feeding pig a hamburger and pushing down on his head.  Each burger has a different number, so sometimes you only get to push once, other times it is 3 or 4 times.  Each pump makes his belly grow bigger, bigger and bigger until…POP!

Even my little one is entertained over and over.  It is a great way to start to teach beginner numbers, colors and counting.  I love that it is purely kid powered, no batteries are needed.  When everyone is finished, all the pieces easily store inside the pig.

Watch to practice how swift you are?  Catch the Fox is for you!  I can easily see why this game was France’s 2016 Toy of the Year!  This greedy fox is snapping up the chickens and stuffing them into his pockets. But when there are too many chickens, his pants will fall down and the chickens will escape!

Each player will take a turn rolling the die to see how many chickens to add into the fox’s pockets, and push his head one time. Before you know it, the fox will lose his pants and the chickens will roll everywhere!  Now you have to be quick!  You have to try to rescue the chickens not just from the fox, but also from the other players and return them to your chicken coop.  To be the winner, you need to be the first to fill up your chicken coop.

Goliath Games was started in 1980 in the Netherlands and now as the fourth largest children’s game manufacturer in North America, sells products in more than 75 countries.  Pressman Toy Corporation, the third largest game manufacturer in the United States, was founded in 1922 and has created games that have been enjoyed for generations.  Both companies produce games that focus on sparking the imaginations and bring families together.

Which game would your family enjoy the most?
